Word-for-word readers utilize an extremely limited area of their actual visual or photographic capability. Where the areas visible to the two eyes overlap is primary vision. There is also secondary or peripheral vision, the least utilized by readers. The most powerful visual area is at the center of the primary vision. This is where the typical reader photographs a word at a time, while not utilizing perhaps some 90% of other visual capabilities. So, eye and eyespan training is key to The Reading Doctor 7-Star Speed Reading Technique. Recognition Rate is the time it takes you between photographing a word or a symbol, and the codification travelling down the optic nerves and the optic tracts to the visual area of the cerebral cortex. The Reading Doctor can measure your Recognition Rate. Your Recognition Rate can be drilled until it is superior to most readers, meaning that you will utilize significantly less time in understanding what you are reading, providing a window for you to begin to read with more and more speed as the Recognition Rate improves. It would be senseless to improve you speed without also improving your Recognition Rate. In fact, this would be a waste of time.
Memory Mode is the way you memorize. Much is known about memory today. As the result, there are some better ways to memorize. The Reading Doctor analyzes your memory mode and gets you start on state-of-the-art memory via The Reading Doctor Digital Memory System.
Reading Process is the number of steps it takes you to understand a word or a symbol you have photographed. There are three basic reading processes: 1) vocalization, 2) sub-verbalization and, 3) sight reading. Sight Reading is, by far, the best system, involving just two steps, seeing and understanding. The Reading Doctor will analyze your reading process and help you to fine tune it from the five steps of vocalization to the two steps of sight reading.
Pre-Reading relates to you organization when reading. It would not be inaccurate to state that, whereas most readers read front to back, speed readers read from the back of the materials to the front. This is perhaps too simplistic. But it is true that speed readers do not read word-for-word from the first to the last words. This does not mean that the speed reader is skipping anything. To the contrary, speed readers are able to capitalize upon the format of whatever is being read in order to maximize comprehension and minimize reading time. In other words, different materials are written in a certain way, according to a certain logic, format or organization. It is by analyzing the format of the material that the speed reader quickly devises a reading plan or strategy, thus saving readers time while maximizing comprehension. This is a kind of art. You can learn the art too. So, when you take a better picture of what you are reading, indeed a moving picture...and as you improve your Recognition Rate via Reading Doctor daily drills, you stage yourself to take faster and faster moving pictures, and as you take faster moving pictures while recognizing the moving pictures in text, you retain the information stronger and longer with The Reading Doctor Digital Memory System. What could be any greater than this! Just seven short one-hour lessons; small group approach available (up to five students in a one-hour lesson), plus two-day workshops for those in a hurry.
